Foot in Mouth
For anyone who’s been to a recent gig- (and I hope you have)
a short disclaimer.
In the words of Hagrid…
- ‘Ooops, I shouldn’t have said that’
Sept 06
So at a recent gig with Dave Sharp (from the Alarm) He asked me
what I thought of ‘Modern Times?’ I answered ‘Do
you mean the album or the times that we live in?’ –
hmmm Rachel the album of course…
Greenbelt 04- ‘Unlike Martyn I
can stick it in’
(I meant my guitar lead into my guitar- Martyn Jospeh who had just
sung before me hadn’t connected his properly)
‘I’ll just turn myself on’
(the microphone)
‘I count Wales as a country’
I was trying to say I’d lived in 3 countries England, Wales
and Australia instead of just saying the usual-‘ Australia
and the UK ‘- but it all came out wrong…
Hmmm there are plenty more… but I’ll
leave it there for now

July 05
So I went to see Michelle Shocked performing the other day- she
was fantastic and very inspirational- however as a warm-up one
of her band members was hostind some karaoke to her old tunes…
one woman got up and did a great performance of Fog Town- but
there were no more takers and the host was set on continuing until
another person sang- it went on and on and eventually he began
singing her hit Anchorage- and suddenly I found that I had volunteered
to join him, (it was like a dream where you suddenly find yourself
on stage without a clue as to what you’re doing) and that
is exactly what happened- I realized that I had no idea of the
melody and I was used to just humming along and adding the odd
harmony to Bill’s Bill sounding version of the
tune- so I sang away and said to the host- you keep on singing
and I’ll harmonize- aware that I was crucifying the favourite
song of many fans in the audience- hmmmmm…not my most defining
moment as a performer. Lessons learned- don’t do karaoke-
period.
